Nifty Ahead !!

Nifty gave a very smart pullback today, Sensex gave a decent gain of 412 points to close the week’s trade at 8757 & Nifty gained 101 points closing the trade at 2720. For the week ended, both the index gained nearly 5% WoW. The 3 days trade witnessed a good buying in all the sectors. The US markets also accelerate the pullback rally. Today’s gain was the biggest gain for the year 2009 till nowand the bull run was lead by Banks & other Large Caps.

However, i dont see a major rise from the current levels. Nifty has a uptrend stop around 2750-2800 levels but the support at the downside is seen at 2500-2400 levels. The medium term story for the markets remain weaker. And if the 2400 levels are breached, we may see further bloodbath to 1800 levels on Nifty. Due to the eventual drama like Elections, Inflation, IIP, G20 Summit & other few factors, its very hard to say when we can expect a fall. But the fall is for sure. I dont know when we will touch the lows but we will touch the lows for sure.

If we have to come out of the bear rally, Nifty has to witness good buying volumes till 3100 levels. Till 3100 on upside is breached, we remain in the downward trend. As of now, the Nifty is at peak levels for the range & so we may see some profits booking & we can even expect the Shorts building in the March & April Contracts. So one can consider going short in April Contract with big stoploss of around 3000-3100 levels. The current rally can add 80-100 points more on Nifty so traders can start Shorting at different levels with averaging techniques.

The concern of “Growing NPA’s” remain to tickle the Banks Balance Sheets so we may see some huge volumes of trade with downward bias in Banking stocks like ICICI, AXIS, SBI & few others in the coming days. Overall, remain cautious, do not get carried away in this relief rally. Further, the appropriate trading calls will be given here on the page & sms group as soon as they are generated. 1) Freight loading targeted at 910 mt – an increment of 60 mt on 2008-09; number of passengers likely to grow by around 7%.

Reduction in Tariffs

1)Reduction in passenger fares of ordinary passenger trains by one rupee for fares costing up to Rupees fifty per passenger for journey above ten kms.

2)Second class and sleeper class fares of all Mail/Express and ordinary passenger trains to be reduced by 2 per cent for tickets costing Rupees fifty and more per passenger.

3) Fares of AC First Class, AC II tier, AC III tier and AC Chair Car also to be reduced by two per cent

1) Buy Nifty above 2870 only,, The Stoploss will be 2820,, Targets will be 2970-2985-3012. Further good news can take nifty to 3030. Then we may witness some profits booking,, So it is advised to remain long till 2985-3000 levels n book profits regularly,,

2) Short sell Nifty 3000 levels as we may see some profit booking around 3000 levels markets are expected to break down a bit,, say atleast 60-80 points from 3000 levels.

The Spice Group, which has presence in mobile phones, entertainment and real estate, has said on Saturday that it has around Rs 2,700 crore ready to acquire a controlling stake in Satyam Computer Services.

"We are a serious bidder and have enough cash for acquiring Satyam. We have decided to rope in Enam Securities as the investment banker for the deal," Spice Group chairman B K Modi told ET after a board meeting on Saturday evening.

The company has cash from the recent sale of a group company Spice Telecom to Idea Cellular Ltd. "We would go about the trisection in a transparent manner. We would not buy shares from the market. We have already placed a bid before Satyam's board. We prefer a preferential allotment", said Mr. Modi.

As i had said, Nifty has broken almost 500 points from the begining of the month. I expect a small recovery of 50-70 points in Nifty, BUT THE SHORT TERM TREND REMAINS DOWNWARDS. Keep a stoploss of 30-40 points below ur short sell rate. My stoploss will be 2750.

The results of RIL did not affect the markets much as they where above the worst expectations. But still the medium term story remains bearish as we will witness many insolvency/bankruptcies in US markets as well as other World Markets. remain very cautious. Larsen & Toubro has increased its stake in Satyam Computer Services from 4% to 12%. Bulk of the buying was done by the infrastructure giant on Friday. The Satyam stock witnessed huge volumes during the day. The company has not yet commented on the move. As per records on the NSE, L&T bought 3.9 crore Satyam shares at Rs 34.52 per share.

RIL Results

Reliance Industries Limited came out with its much-awaited results on Friday. While expectations of the results were wide-ranging, but the declared results were above expectations.

The net profit RIL stood at Rs 3,501 crore — the lowest estimates on Reliance were as much low as Rs 2,200-2,300 crore. Even as there was a Rs 660-crore other income component, the numbers still seemed to be on the higher side of expectations. Mukesh Ambani is known to give such surprises.

All Eyes On RIL

Reliance Industries financial performance in the third quarter Q3 may be less as compared to earlier year YoY due to less margins in refinery business. The oil and gas leader, which reported a net profit at Rs 3,882 crore in the third quarter of the previous fiscal, may post lower profits in this fiscal. Even their petrochemical segment margins are under pressure due to high carring costs, but, the pressure will not be as serious as their refininery business.
In Q2, RIL had refining margins at $13.4 per barrel of crude oil, but in Q3, it could be only $9 per barrel since crude has touched an all time low at $39 a barrel.
RIL had shut its polypropylene plant in Jamnagar in October 2008 stating that the step was taken for carrying out maintenance work. Petrochemical products sales may have decreased due to the shutting of this plant putting pressure on the revenues from the segment.
News running across the sentiments say that RIL's M2M losses on crude has run into billions of dollars, when crude prices plunged to below $40 a barrel.
The shares of RIL had plunged at an all-time low at Rs 930 following the news of shutting of the Jamnagar plant on October 27 2008. Remain cautious.

Finance Ministry sources have told CNBC-TV18 that Satyam does not have more than Rs 150 crore worth deposits with banks.

According to Finance Ministry sources, Satyam does not have deposits of more than Rs 150 crore with banks. These deposits could include both fixed deposits and current accounts and these deposits are distributed among PSU banks, private sector banks and foreign banks.

PSU banks, Finance Ministry sources tell us, have an exposure of Rs 2000 crore to all Satyam subsidiaries, associates and joint ventures. However, they say that this exposure is secure and the security is worth Rs 2,800 crore against this exposure.

These securities are in the form of receivables, property and shares. Also, Finance Ministry sources reported that PSU banks have zero exposure to Satyam.

Indian Markets followed the weak global trends n opened gap down. US markets fell by 4% yesterday on the event of Bankruptcy filing of Nortel Networks. This will affect the earnings of few Indian Companies.
Infosys Technologies has outstanding receivable of $4 Millions.
Sasken Communications derives 10% of revenue from Nortel.

Nortel Networks have filled for Bankruptcy Under “Chapter 11” of their Company law which states that the the company will be allowed to carry on their business uptill they clear off all their debts. And after clearing the debts there will be possibilities of Re-structuring the management. Again this event will weaken the Indian Corporate Earnings which will lead the valuation to fall further.

Nifty has strong support of 2480-2520 levels from here. Keep an watch of Q3 results of frontliners like Reliance Industries.

Here is one of the ways an investor can come out of Satyam. Now there is a high chance of not getting anything from ur holdings. So u have to risk ur entire holdings.
Suppose u hold 100 shares of Satyam at say Rs.100. (Amount Stuck=Rs.10000)
U sell off the shares when markets open on friday. Suppose u sold the shares at Rs.30/- then buy it back if the share prices further falls to sayRs.10. This will amount to Short Selling n u will make a profit of Rs.20/- per share n so ur profit will be Rs.2000/- n u will still have 100 shares in ur hand at Rs.100. And now the amount stuck will be Rs.8000. (initial amt stuck Rs.10000 - profit Rs.2000/- on short sales). U can do this transaction for 3-4 times if share prices keep giving the rally as expected. U have to risk ur entire money n it will be profitable as u wont get anything from the company. So take the risk as per ur ability.

Further U can even hedge ur losses by Short Selling Nifty when markets open on friday. Nifty has strong support at 2600 levels so even 1 lot of Nifty can give u good profits.

Dear Members, when there was a fall in Satyam stock price during the Maytas Deal, many brokers n technical analysts n market researchers said to buy Satyam for quick returns. But i always said to remain away. Many of the members asked me why did i say not to buy when the share prices went up by 8%-10% for 3 days i.e from 130-180. Everyone was driven by the talks n speeches of technical analysts across India. I was continously saying all my members to remain away n i m really happy tat no 1 of my members are really stuck in satyam now.

Now everyone will start reporting something or the other after the disaster. 5-6 committes will be set n they will investigate the reasons n 1 fine day the matter will be closed. This day is the worst day for Indian Corporate Sector. Although the share valuations may be near 25-27 but its has potential to fall toRs.2 - Rs.5/-

Satyam kicked out from Nifty Index

India’s National Stock Exchange said on Wednesday it will remove Satyam Computer Services Ltd from its S&P CNX Nifty 50-share index from 12 January.
The head of the Indian outsourcing firm resigned on Wednesday, disclosing profits had been falsely inflated for years, sending its shares crashing nearly 80%.
The exchange did not give any reason for the change.
Anil Ambani-group firm Reliance Capital Ltd will replace Satyam in the main index, the exchange said in a statement. Satyam will also be excluded from the CNX 100 index, CNX 500 index and the CNX IT index.
Satyam is a component of the Bombay Stock Exchange’s main 30-share index, the country’s benchmark index. The BSE has not made any statement on Satyam as yet.

Raju's Letter

"I sincerely apologise to all Satyamites and stakeholders, who have made Satyam a special organisation, for the current situation," said Raju. "I am now prepared to subject myself to the laws of the land and face consequences thereof."
Raju recommended DSP Merrill Lynch be entrusted the task of "quickly exploring some merger opportunities," but the investment banker informed the stock exchanges that it has terminated its engagement with Satyam.
According to Raju, Ram Mynampati will act as an interim CEO. The resignations, ahead of January 10 board meeting, pushed the company into crisis and paved the way for immediate restructuring of the board and the management.
Shares of the company plunged by over 40 per cent soon after the resignations. Satyam, considered a ripe proposition for acquisition, was pushed into crisis after Raju was forced to abandon the acquisition of Maytas Infrastructure and Maytas Properties promoted by his son.
In a regulatory filing the company said Raju would continue to be the chairman till the board is expanded. "Under the circumstances I am tendering my resignation as the chairman of Satyam and shall continue in this position only till such time the current board is expanded. My continuance is just to ensure enhancement of the board over the next several days or as early as possible," said Raju.

Satyam Computer Services founder-chairman B Ramalinga Raju resigned from the IT major's board after admitting a multi-crore fraud in the company’s accounts.
In a notification to the stock exchanges, the Hyderabad-based IT firm said Raju and Managing Director Rama Raju had resigned early Wednesday and that the Securities and Exchanges Board of India (SEBI) had been informed.
In the regulatory statement, Raju said that the company had fraudulently incorporated a non-existent cash component and inflated the bank balance to reflect Rs.5,040 crores (Rs.50.4 billion) as against Rs.5,361 crores (Rs.53.61 billion).
''No board member had any knowledge of the real situation. Accrued interest of Rs 376 crore in books is non-existent. About Rs 1,230 crore was arranged to Satyam, but was not reflected in the books,” he said.
CNBC-TV18 reports that the account manipulation started years ago. "It was like riding a tiger, not knowing how to get off without being eaten," Raju said in his resignation letter to the company’s board of directors, in which he listed major financial wrong-doings over the years to inflate profits.

Satyam Computer Services, India’s fourth largest IT services provider, has proposed to acquire Maytas Properties and 51 per cent stake in Maytas Infra for a consideration of $1.6 billion (about Rs 8,000 crore).
The move by Satyam, which is sitting on a cash pile of Rs 8,235 crore, has taken the market by surprise as the IT major preferred to acquire infrastructure companies and not an IT company.
Stating that it is part of its plan to de-risk the core IT business in times of recession, Mr B. Ramalinga Raju, Chairman of Satyam, said the combined entity would help face the challenging environment and uncertainty in the market.
Satyam would acquire 100 per cent stake of promoters in Maytas Properties, a private entity, with immediate effect for $1.3 billion. With regard to Maytas Infra, Satyam would buy 31 per cent from promoters (at Rs 475 a share) and 20 per cent from the public at (Rs 525). Family relationship
The deal raised the eyebrows of analysts as both the firms are led by the sons of Mr Raju. While Maytas Properties is headed by his younger son Mr B. Rama Raju (Jr), Mr Teja Raju, the elder son, leads Maytas Infra. Of the proposed Rs 8,000-crore buyout, Rs 6,500 crore would go to Maytas Properties alone. (sources:BL)

Citigroup received a U.S. government rescue package that shields the bank from losses on toxic assets and injects $20 billion of capital, pushing the stock after its 60 percent plunge last week.

Indian markets are the strongest of all amid the recent crises. Sensex is forming a major support at 8500-9000 levels. Not much of downside left now. One can start accumalating the heavy weights like Reliance, ONGC, AxisBank at this levels.
Inflation is not the problem now as it has already cooled off from the highs. RBI interventions n its corrective measures for market growth will be eyed by every investor to build the confidence into the markets back.
Overall in my view markets will start growing up slowly with the above mentioned levels n the investors can take on long positions in the heavy weights.
Reliance, Union Bank, ONGC, RelianceCapital, Axis bank, ICICI, n other front liners will lead the markets up in the coming year.
I continue with my target of 13000 on sensex till the year end.
